Team “Call Me Maybe” at our 2012 Halloween Throwdown!
We’re throwing a workout costume party on Saturday, October 31st: in the place of all classes we’ll be running a day of Halloween-themed workouts! Teams of three athletes (two men and one woman per team) will compete in three workouts. Costumes are highly suggested — do your own thing or coordinate with friends on a team costume!
All Levels are invited to participate, however if you’re planning to begin your first day of Level 1 that weekend we ask that you do that on Sunday instead!
The event is FREE, but please register your team so that we can plan appropriately!
Event #1: “Pushing Up Daisies”
Max team Ground-to-Overhead in 10 minutes.
Each team will have one barbell, and 2×10, 2×25, 2×45 bumpers. They may choose to lift 45, 65, 95, 115, 135, 155, 185, or 205 at any given time. The bar may be loaded as soon as the clock starts, and loading may be changed as many times as the team desires during the 10 minutes.
Only one person may be working at a time, and all three athletes must complete at least 10 reps each.
Score is total pounds lifted by all three athletes.
Event #2: “Raising The Dead”
AMRAP in 7 mins:
Synchronized “Pall Bearer” Partner Deadlifts, 135lbs
One team member will perform burpees. The remaining two team members will perform synchronized touch-and-go deadlifts: each scoring burpee must be performed at the same time as a deadlift (chest and barbell hit floor at roughly the same time.)
The barbell must not touch the ground apart from momentarily for touch-and-go deadlifts for the duration of the 7 minutes. Should the barbell rest on the ground or should either deadlifting athlete stop or re-grip while the barbell is on the ground, the team must complete a 10 pull-up penalty. Pull-ups may be completed unassisted, or teammates may lift each other. No boxes / bands / etc. may be used. Any teammate or combination of teammates may complete the pull-up penalty.
Athletes may rotate / hand off the barbell at any time, however this must be done without putting the barbell down on the ground. If either end of the barbell falls to the ground, the entire team must complete the 10 pull-up penalty as above.
Score is number of burpees completed. Any burpee that is not accompanied by a deadlift will not count towards the team score.
Event #3: “Run, Pumpkin, Run!”
AMRAP in 15 mins:
Box Jumps, 24/20″
One team member will run 400m carrying a pumpkin while a second team member completes box jumps, and the third team member does sit-ups. When the first team member returns, the second team member moves to sit-ups, the third team member takes the pumpkin for a run, and the first team member does box jumps.
The team score is the total number of box jumps completed plus the total number of sit-ups completed.
