What Is It?
The CrossFit Games Open is the annual first stage of the CrossFit Games. Each week for 5 weeks, CrossFit releases a workout, and hundreds of thousands of people around the world complete it and post their scores to the CrossFit Games website. Athletes who post the best overall scores in the Open for each region will proceed to Regionals competitions, and the winners at Regionals will proceed to the 2014 CrossFit Games in California.
Why Should I Participate?
The Open is for EVERYONE. See how you stack up! The Games website lets you compare yourself to your friends, your enemies, everyone else in your gym, everyone else in your state, your region, or the world. You can even see how you did relative to everyone who is the same age, gender, height, and weight as you.
If you want to get a really visceral feel for how fit it’s possible to be, you can directly compare yourself to last year’s Games champions Rich Froning and Sam Briggs. Or perhaps you would rather find out if you’re fitter than celebrities like Bob Harper or Max Greenfield.
This is a golden opportunity to find out how fit you really are (on a global scale!) It’s exciting, a little terrifying, and will leave you with a great sense of accomplishment.
Here at CrossFit Virtuosity, we’ll be running the weekly Open workout for 5 weeks on Fridays beginning THIS Friday, February 28th. If you attend on a Friday, you will do the Open workout regardless of whether you’re officially registered! If you can’t make it on Fridays, we will run make-up sessions on Sundays at 2pm (during Open Gym.)
